Amy Wilson Presents Sheila Bridges

Sheila Bridges is a well known Interior Designer today who combines classical furniture with a modern twist to form her unique eclectic style. She also incorporates many cultural aspects into her rooms that set her apart from others. She grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Brown University as well as Parson School of Design. In 1994 she opened her own design firm, Sheila Bridges Design Inc. She now lives and works in Harlem, New York City.

Sheila has many notable accomplishments including being voted America's best Interior Designer in 2001 by Time magazine. Her work has appeared in many publications such as House Beautiful and Elle Decor. She also wrote her own book, Furnishing Forward, and has hosted four seasons of her own television show on the Fine Living network. She is probably most well known for designing the New York offices of former President Clinton and his staff. She also designed her own wall covering called the "Harlem Toile de Jouy."
“Harlem Toile de Jouy was designed to tell a somewhat satirical story about African American life as seen through the sometimes distorted lens of the media.” -Sheila Bridges

“I've seen way too many all-white kitchens, with white cabinets, white counters and white tiles. Clean, yes, but also a bit uninspired. I would really love to see people take more risks with color in their homes in general, but more specifically in their kitchens.” -Sheila Bridges

“I would say that it is pretty classically driven but with many twists and turns that are a lot more modern. I'm a bit all over the map when it comes to my love of furniture — I am equally attracted to that cowhide Eames chair as I am to that neoclassical English sideboard. I enjoy mixing different styles and periods of furniture as well as combining different fabric textures and patterns.” -Sheila Bridges
